{together} Five Minute Friday

Go.

Together.
Brothers.

They are learning to depend on together. It happens in ordinary moments. Sometimes sifting through arguments or misunderstandings. Ultimately, brothers are built as moments pile together forming trust and respect and love. Brothers are built by…

Sharing adventures while spawning dragons and robbers and aliens.
Reading books, passing notes, and deciding to become writers.
Developing characters and plot lines by flashlight under a comforter with notebooks and markers.

Solving problems and building train tracks and designing airplanes.
Creating elaborate Lego creations and miniature worlds.
Rocking to favorite songs with hard drum beats and complicated guitar riffs.

Laughing from humor dependent on wit.
Cleaning the bathroom and laughing with hysterics falling off the line into crudeness.
Hiding around corners and scaring sisters and laughing until it is hard to breathe.

The past nine months have been building brothers.
Together they make family forever.

This summer, I came across a writing challenge hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker. For more information, check out this link to Five Minute Friday. The nitty-gritty is you write for 5 minutes on a word, then you share your post, and you comment on another. I hope you’ll join too.

  1. I have two boys, 18 and 21. This piece reminds me how precious and tight the bond of brotherhood is. It's made in a moment not years. Thanks for the beautiful words.
