I wore my typewriter shirt today.
With stripes.
And a favorite blueberry cardigan.
Matched perfectly to a Jones Market necklace a dear friend gave me.
I felt loved.
So even though I’m not a big fan of selfies, I snapped one anyway. Just because I felt so loved on a too-warm day for February with a bright sunshine sky that is usually reserved for Spring.
And I remember that this is a day to treasure. It might not be what I expect. (Shouldn’t I be bundled in a hat, mittens, scarf, and, at the very least, a puffy vest?) It might not go how I thought it should go. It might be full of surprises. But it is good. I’m learning that part of the discipline of treasure is to discover the goodness of God when things aren’t going how you expect.
I’m going to try something new!
Some of you are long time readers, so you know the way I entered blogging was through writing about the teaching of writers. I co-created Two Writing Teachers and spent years blogging about teaching writers. When I stepped away from Two Writing Teachers, I wanted to explore new writing territories. Most of my writing about teaching writers now happens in articles for Choice Literacy and for my upcoming book.
The problem is, there are too many snippets and stories being left in my notebook because I don’t have time to turn each story and strategy into an article or a book chapter. I also don’t want my blog to become only about teaching writers. (Don’t get me wrong, I love teaching writers…and I love writing about other things.)
So I’ve decided to give my newsletter a little renovation and use it as a place to offer stories, tips, and inspiration for teaching writers. If you’re looking for inspiration for teaching and celebrating writers, then won’t you become my email friend? You can expect powerful tips and delightful stories about teaching writers, as well as little updates from my corner of the world a few times each month.
Just add your email here and have encouragement for teaching writers delivered right to your inbox!

You look lovely. If I didn't know I would have never thought it could be a February selfie. Celebrating one of my young writers today.
Just signed up! I can always use inspiration and encouragement. 🙂 I love your selfie! This February warmth is so welcome. Gives me energy!
Looking forward to your stories, thoughts, advice popping up in my email. It's always a treat to read you. Looking fabulous!
I love your “selfie”, Ruth, and will love the new “extras” in your newsletter. Have a happy weekend!
Beautiful selfie! Maybe you should try it more often! 🙂 Congrats on your newsletter…sounds like exciting things happening!
Love your selfie and that you're enjoying warmer weather. You're right . . . every day is good and a time to discover the goodness of God!
So nice to see your smile. And your reminder to love our days no matter what happens is a good reminder for me to be grateful for all of my days.
Your encouragement has done it again. I am finally feeling like I am getting my groove back and can read most of the posts in my RSS feeder and stop to comment and write again. Thank you for continuing to encourage all of us!
Can't wait to read your new posts. Your inspiration helps to keep me going at my new adventure of being a writer at this new time of my life.
Ruth, I am eager to celebrate a new chapter in your life with you.
Life is full of surprises! I'm glad you are feeling loved. Lately, crawling out of bed, taking a shower, drying my hair and putting just simple makeup on makes me feel better. It's a little thing that makes a big difference. I'm so glad to celebrate with you! xoxo
I'm so glad you were feeling loved! Your outfit is so fun. We also had a shot of spring this weekend. It was a nice surprise.
Sweet photo!
