{grace} Five Minute Friday

If you were to watch our daughter Stephanie it wouldn’t take long to realize she doesn’t have a lot of grace. She is an athlete at her very core, but her motions aren’t fluid, her movements aren’t graceful. She is strong and bold and quick, but she doesn’t have a lot of grace.

Instead she clomps and clunks. Regularly she trips, falls, and runs into people and objects. She doesn’t mean to hurt us, but she just doesn’t have a lot of grace.

She sometimes gets frustrated with the constant catastrophes. It’s a little like a bull in a china shop.

Life gets clunky without grace. It’s impossible to be perfect, to live without hurting or getting hurt. We need grace. I wonder if God gets frustrated when we don’t accept it.

Someday Steph will grow into her body. She’ll learn grace.

I think it starts as we extend grace when she bumps and bruises us. She accepts it. Grace in physical form leads to understanding grace in spiritual form.

This summer, I came across a writing challenge hosted by Lisa-Jo Baker. For more information, check out this link to Five Minute Friday. The nitty-gritty is you write for 5 minutes on a word, then you share your post, and you comment on another. I hope you’ll join too.

  1. Hey! I can so relate to how you describe your daughter, I seem to clunk and clomp all over the place too, although I am about as far from an athlete as one can be. Nothing compares to our Father's grace as we do the same spiritually, I love that comparison. Thanks for sharing!

  2. I love the analogy of Steph's physical grace and how to flowed right into the grace bestowed unto us. Food for thought. Growth is necessary in both instances.

  3. Hmmm. My older son. The sweetest guy in the world, and he's not “ungraceful” in terms of his body, but he breaks more things, e.g. his bed, the latch on the front door, his electric razor (not on purpose), than anyone I have ever met.
