hello wholehearted

This year there was no rumination, argument, nor negotiation when it came to accepting One Little Word into my orbit for 2024. She simply knocked, and I opened the door.

Wholehearted

We are already acquaintances and run in similar circles, so it was only natural to invite her in for a cup of tea. She lingered for a delightful visit, and then declared she would be staying for the year.

It felt right, so I started making space for her. I didn’t realize my heart was a bit tight. For so many years I’ve prayed for a soft heart, yet it is not as pliable as I hope it to be.

She promised we’ll work on that.

She prodded me to return to my roots, noticing the ordinary moments that seem insignificant, but are often the things that are the most extraordinary. She promised that it is okay to do this just for me…not as a momma or a teacher or a friend…just for me.

Today I’m joining the Spiritual Journey gathering. The community writes together on the first Thursday of the month.

You can see the roundup and join at Reflections on the Teche.

  1. Ruth, wholehearted gives a sense of commitment, something many lack. When we give ourselves over to something wholeheartedly, we are doing something for ourselves that we feel strongly about. This is truly a strong word to have as a guide for the new year.

  7. Ruth, I’ve read your post several times over the past few days. It is soothing and comforting to hear that Wholehearted came to visit you and you welcomed her. There was no tugging or worry about accepting her offer to guide. Your post brought a sense of calmness into my space. I look forward to reading about your friendship and how it will bring direction and peace to your daily walk.

  8. Wholehearted! I learned in Hong Kong that when you give, you use both hands signifying you’re doing it with a whole heart. I thought you might like that image.
Blessings as you move into this new year with a word that came knocking and you answered. Some years are like that!
