Happy New Year! Here’s to documenting a year of celebrations. I’m glad you’re here.
One.
I’m excited to celebrate this with you. It is my favorite art I’ve ever made. Ever. (I don’t think this is an exaggeration either.) I woke up yesterday morning with these words stirring in my soul and I couldn’t shake them. So throughout the day I threw a little paint and paper and lace and glitter on a canvas and came up with art I love.
{Dance on the Clouds. Original mixed media art. January 2013}
Two.
On New Year’s eve, I was able to put some paint + stuff of canvases with my family as we documented our One Little Words for 2014. We were waiting for Andy to decide on his. He’s never been the indecisive one before!

Three.
During my notebook time, in the early hours of January 1, this mantra of sorts came out. I’m looking forward to living with this and refining it. Then maybe I’ll make something to keep me reminded all year long.

Raw, unrefined writing straight from my notebook.
I’m looking forward to reading your celebrations. Please link-up below.

  1. Happy New Year, Ruth! I'm choosing OLW for the first time this year. You have inspired me to memorialize it in art!

Thank you for keeping us focused on joy.

  2. Ruth, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the art and the page from your writing! I, too, celebrate my OLW. Thank you for the opportunity to celebrate every week! I look forward to it! Happy 2014!

  3. Leaping into art! What a great way to Leap into the New Year! Love the piece and love that you got your family involved in creating as well. One of my favorite Bible School songs has the line, “He went walking and leaping and praising God!” I look forward to reading more about how you leap into life.

  4. Love that 'part' woman tripping across the top of your canvas, Ruth. The boots, the motion-just you! I've forgotten that you all choose a word-what a good thing for everyone. Thanks for starting this Celebration-good Saturday starting!

  5. Your art and mantra form a perfect circle of thought, Ruth – you are leaping and dancing your way to a new year of hope, blessings, and peace. And, how awesome to make the OWL something for your family to participate in and celebrate, too!

  6. I too, love your art! Your notebook page has such powerful verbs. I imagine you will revisit this page often. It is inspiring, like you are.

  7. Ruth,
I really enjoy the way you use images with words to tell a story. Lots to celebrate! Love your art work.

Thanks for sharing the page from your notebook. If you figure out how to accomplish the first one, will you let me know? I struggle with that all the time. I make everything more challenging than it should be.

    Cathy

  8. Such artistic celebrations this week! I love the idea of making a piece of art with the one little word. I love the way you started the year in your notebook. I am looking forward to having some time to reflect now that I am home. Have a great week!

  9. Ruth,
I love your creation! You've got such talent! Thank you for showing how you involve the whole family in choosing and arting their one little word! I can't tell you how inspiring this post is to me…Thank you for celebrating.

  10. Your creations are always amazing. You have inspired me to set forth on a canvas my OLW with some art. I just need to think on it a bit. I absolutely love your word and the art you created to go with it.

  11. Ruth, it's so fun to share Saturday celebrations here. What fun to see the artwork you and your family each using his or her OLW. I haven't found mine yet, or maybe it hasn't found me. I love the words from your notebook, especially the artful way that leap seems to dance across the page.

  12. Ruth, I like the One Little Word activity for NYE. Next Year. I think I might have to decorate my One Little Word: believe. Thanks for providing a place to celebrate all the goodness in life.

  13. Ruth, I love the art you created for your word, Leap. Mixed media is so much fun to create. That would be a great tinder hanging somewhere in your home to leap all year long! I will check in to see how you are doing since we share that OLW.
