Not Too Busy

Too Busy. These words have a tendency to raise my hackles. I don’t ever want to be too busy.

I think too busy means I’m missing real life. Too busy means I’m swept up by the current panic or the flashy trend.

Too busy means I’m surviving.

Life should be more than survival.

Because when we are trapped in survival, it is too easy to believe we can’t do anything powerful or meaningful or worthy. It is too easy for the day to wrap around us and to feel like the only choice is to react

Life should be more than reaction.

I’m wondering if the way to step over (or maybe to step on) too busy, is to find the celebration.

Life isn’t all gloom and doom.
It isn’t all hurry and scurry.
It isn’t meant for survival and reaction.

It is meant to be good. Maybe it won’t be easy, in fact, it’s a guarantee that it won’t be easy. But it can be good. We can celebrate.

Let’s not wait until life is perfect — until we have it all together — to celebrate. Don’t be too busy to celebrate. Because celebration saves us when we find it in the middle of the mess.

  1. Did you know you are my unofficial life coach, Ruth? Your words (and the words you choose to share–awesome quote) wrap my days in goodness. “Celebration saves us when we find it in the middle of the mess.” Truth. I am grateful and excited that this is the direction of the writing you are being called to do.

  2. And I just read a book that made me jump up and down, Ruth! I agree so much that one enjoy (celebrate) all that life offers. I love that Pinterest quote you shared! Thanks!

  3. This is why a champagne stopped is a great thing. You can celebrate the moment, whatever it might be. When we lived in North America we would often pull the flutes down from the shelf, pour a sip or two, and celebrate whatever there was to be glad in. Cheers!
